Research Themes for Abstracts

1.  Fundamental mechanisms of disease and therapeutic development (basic sciences cluster)

This theme will focus on fundamental anatomical and physiological research that investigates the underlying mechanisms of various diseases and health conditions. It will encompass studies on tissue and organ function, anatomical alterations, and physiological changes that occur in response to disease. Research in this theme will explore how different health conditions disrupt normal biological processes and will include investigations into preclinical models of disease, as well as the development and testing of potential therapeutic strategies. These strategies may involve pharmacological interventions, experimental therapies, and other innovative approaches aimed at restoring normal physiological function across a wide range of conditions.

2.  Clinical advancements in diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention (medical cluster)

This theme will explore clinical innovations aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of major diseases. Research will cover new diagnostic techniques, clinical trials, advancements in drug therapies, and patient management strategies, particularly focusing on complex diseases such as cardiovascular conditions, infectious diseases, and metabolic disorders. Studies that contribute to understanding disease prevention, including novel vaccination strategies or early detection methods, will also fall under this theme.

3.  Surgical innovations, techniques, and postoperative Care (surgical cluster)

This theme will highlight cutting-edge research in surgical techniques and innovations aimed at improving patient outcomes. It will focus on novel surgical procedures, advancements in anaesthesiology, and improvements in post-operative care, including pain management and recovery. Research in this theme will address both major and minimally invasive surgeries, exploring their impact on recovery times, complications, and patient survival. Contributions on anaesthesia technologies, surgical robotics, and perioperative care strategies are also encouraged.

4.  Advances in medical imaging and diagnostic technology (imaging cluster)

This theme will focus on advancements in diagnostic imaging technologies and their clinical applications. It includes research on novel imaging modalities, such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine, and their integration into clinical practice for improved disease detection, monitoring, and treatment planning. Additionally, studies on the development of new diagnostic tools, medical physics innovations, and applications of artificial intelligence in imaging will be featured in this theme.

5.  Molecular pathology and diagnostic advancements in disease (pathology cluster)

This theme will emphasize research in molecular pathology and its role in advancing disease diagnosis and understanding. Research will include the identification of genetic and molecular biomarkers, the use of advanced diagnostic methods, and their application in personalized medicine. Studies that explore the molecular mechanisms of disease, especially cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and infectious diseases, will be central to this theme. Innovations in laboratory-based diagnostic methods and pathology techniques such as liquid biopsy, genomic sequencing, and molecular diagnostics will also be highlighted.

6.  Public health, epidemiology, and health systems research (biostats and campus health cluster)

Research in this theme will focus on applying epidemiological and biostatistical methods to improve public health outcomes. It will include studies on the epidemiology of diseases, health trends, and interventions aimed at reducing the burden of diseases across populations. Additionally, research on health system strengthening, including policy evaluation, health financing, human resources for health, and health services management, will be featured. Contributions focused on campus health initiatives and improving population health through systemic approaches are encouraged.

7.  Psychological health and behavioral science (psychology & psychiatry cluster)

This theme will explore research related to psychological health, mental health interventions, and behavioral sciences. It will include studies on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and psychological disorders, including depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Research on mental health interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychosocial support programs, and innovations in psychiatric treatment will also fall under this theme. The role of behavioral science in influencing patient health outcomes and improving mental well-being is a central focus.
