Dr Lefa Shelile is a senior general surgery trainee at Sefako Makgatho Health Science University, doing clinical duties at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital.  He has an interest in vascular surgery and is hoping to start training in the field soon.

Lefa has been working in the medical field as a professional for the past 8 years and has had the fortune of holding leadership positions in that period. These include, amongst other, being the intern representative, the registrar representative, and the university representative in the ongoing CMSA process of creating work based assessments. He is the current Vice President of the South African Society of Surgeons in Training (SASSIT).

As part of his professional journey Lefa has developed an interest in research and has had a few publications, including publication in the Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases Innovations and Techniques, an international journal.

Outside of the profession Lefa has an interest in aviation and holds a student private pilot license which he aims to complete after completing his surgical training. He also mentors young people, mainly those looking to have a career in academia and health care. Lefa also has business interests in the skin care industry and is a minor shareholder at Epicutis Skin Care. He is a father and enjoys spending time with his family.
