Since 2012, Dr. Soné van der Walt has been a lecturer in the Anatomy and Histology Department at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU).

Her research focuses on the critical areas of biological profiling and facial approximation, with a translational interest in their clinical anatomical applications.

Dr. van der Walt also actively contributes to the anatomical community, serving as a council member for the Anatomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) and participating in the Academic and Research committees within her department. Furthermore, she is a member of the scientific committee for the School of Medicine’s Research day in 2025, demonstrating her commitment to fostering research within the institution.
